Once an important maritime republic, Genoa is today a very important port situated in the homonymous gulf and owes its name to Janus, the Greek God protector of ships. In this wonderful city there is plenty to satisfy both children and parents: one must-see attraction for the whole family is the Aquarium, the largest one in Europe, rich in different species of fishes and other aquatic creatures such as penguins, dolphins and turtles; another breathtaking landmark is Il Bigo, a lift situated in the old port area that allows visitors to enjoy a splendid view of the city and the coast.
