Pesaro, birthplace of the world famous composer Gioacchino Rossini, is a charming seaport and holiday resort facing the Adriatic Sea with many sights that really deserve to be visited. Among its marvellous treasures should be mentioned: the splendid 15th century Ducal Palace built by Alessandro Sforza, the majestic Romanesque Cathedral constructed over the ruins of an ancient Roman building and decorated with an enchanting floor mosaic, the imposing Rocca Costanza Castle desired by Costanzo Sforza and initially used as a prison, and an interesting museum about the life of Gioacchino Rossini. Urbino is a pleasant town midway between the Apennines and the Adriatic Sea, seat of the university and birthplace of renowned artists such as Raphael and Bramante. World Heritage Site thanks to its unrivalled Renaissance gems, Urbino hosts the stupendous Palazzo Ducale, ancient residence of the Duke Federico II da Montefeltro and today home of the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche, a spectacular collection of Renaissance masterpieces.
