The Family-run, mountain campsite “Margherita†opened in 1971 and was named after Grandmother Grittle, the Walser name for Margherita. Besides being anaturalistic paradise for those who love the mountains and sport as well as a place to have fun and relax, Gressoney is also synonymous with Walser and ancient cultural traditions. The facility, situated in a large flat area extending 20,000 sq.m along the banks of the Lys river, at 1385 m above sea level and surrounded by the enchanting cross-country ski tracks, is a stone’s throw from the characteristic town centre and ski lifts of Weissmatten. It is the nearest campsite to the ski-lifts of the Monterosa Ski - Gressoney la Trinité ski district, an excellent starting point for mountain walks in the splendour of the Valle d' Aosta in summertime.
Given the growing call for holidays aimed at comfort and wellbeing without having to give up the beneficial contact with nature, we decided to offer more: Margherita is now a Resort as well as a Campsite. Our guests now have the additional choice of taking a break in a completely new area which includes a wellness centre and 5 chaletsmade with the most up-to-date eco-compatible technology for climate-controlled houses, with underfloor heating and solar panels.
All our guests can now relax and enjoy a cup of coffee or one of our cakes while sunbathing on the terrace of the new Margherita bar built at the entrance to the Campsite.
The Campsite is situated near the town centre of Gressoney Saint Jean, with its shops (supermarket, newsagents, tobacco shop, food shops, chemist, clothing and sports’ shops), public facilities (bars, restaurants), various services (bank, post office, tourist office, petrol station) and is a stone’s throw from several sports facilities (cross-country skiing track, bobsleigh run, ice skating, chair lift, multi-sport centre, tennis courts) and a cinema.
The office is located on the first floor of the building. This is where all the registration formalities are carried out and where you can go if you have any problems and/or to purchase tokens for hot water. There is also a games room, with facilities including table-tennis, table football, several table games, a video projector and a home theatre system, making it an ideal meeting place for adults and children alike. From here you can go through to the largeterrace, which is set up as a solarium with small tables, deck chairs, a swing seat and 2 spinning bikes.
Busy children = relaxed parents. Your children can have fun on an exciting play system incorporating a slide, swings and climbing frame and in the wooden Wendy house with its little table and bench. Older children can enjoy playing five-a-side football or volleyball on the two specially marked fields, while you can sunbathe, relax, play cards on the picnic tables next to the play area or enjoy an aperitif or a snack on the terrace next to our new bar, from which you can take in the magnificent views of Monte Rosa.
After a tiring day spent skiing or after a long walk in summer, what could possibly be better than relaxing in our newWellness Centre, the Five Elements? And if you would then like to enjoy a quiet evening in a restaurant specialising in local cuisine, the Kleine Restaurant, situated only 4 km from the Campsite, offers a 20% discount to our customers bearing the appropriate ticket.
The Bar and the Wellbeing Centre opening times are only guaranteed during the high season and long weekends. At other times the Management will decide whether to open these services depending on the number of people staying at the Campsite.

The camping area has 80 pitches for annual or seasonal guests and 15 pitches for camper vans/towing caravans and a green space for tents in summer. Each pitch has a hook-up for electricity. For our permanent clients there is piped gas for heating, and cooking is made possible by a handy LPG distribution system, which removes the annoying problem of changing gas bottles. All the systems are rigorously certificated in accordance with applicable regulations.
The characteristic wood and stone building has a ground floor with plenty of toilet facilities and a disabled bathroom. Services include 20 token-operated hot water showers, 20 wash basins and 20 WCs.
Guests can do their washing up in a large room equipped for this purpose. There is also a laundry room for washing clothes by hand or in the automatic washing machine/dryer.
Campsite guests may park their vehicles in the large car park adjacent to the building, along the perimeter road or, where possible, near their own caravan.
The Campsite also offers delivery of 10 kg propane gas bottles for clients without cars.

Clients can use the handy ski store with ski boot dryer situated on the veranda.
